Everyone's Life journey and healing path is unique to them.
You are at the beginning of the bridge where you stand today, in your body, thoughts, and emotions.
Through the therapy sessions we build the bridge together, and you explore ways to take the steps you desire to the other side. As we create the space to understand what is keeping you stuck, you will discover ways to be compassionate with yourself and learn new skills to move you towards embracing your well being and where you want to be.
Grief, anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma, when avoided, become the roadblocks to building this bridge.
This therapy space can support you in navigating those roadblocks and rediscovering what is meaningful.
Each session offers a conversation addressing your concerns, education around the body-mind connection, and the practice of new skills to develop an inner knowing that supports you on your unique life's journey.
After many losses through a lifetime grief accumulates as a silent weight in our body, minds, emotions and spirit. It's the backpack that you keep wearing yet very seldom put down or notice.
Grief is a normal reaction to loss. Each person's grief journey is unique and the path to healing needs time and space.
I support individuals in learning about the impacts of grief and accumulated losses over their life, offer them tools to connect with unresolved emotions, and help them navigate life's biggest challenges: death, divorce, job change, loss of community, moves, illness and addictions.
Through this exploration together, if and when you are ready we explore the aspects of inner calm and alignment after a loss, stepping stones to reengage in life and skills to support your overall health.
I am a Registered Social Worker, who has been working and volunteering in the mental health and wellness field for 25 + years. I am grateful to live, play, and work in Mi’kma’ki (Nova Scotia), the ancestral and unceeded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. When not working you can find me in nature, gardening, hiking, travelling or dancing.
The gifts I bring to each conversation are my authentic presence, my ability to listen, and the belief that your inner resilience is waiting to be reclaimed to support the changes you seek.
I began my social work career offering individual, family and group therapy with the non-profit sector in Nova Scotia. My career has been diverse offering therapy in mental health services, collaborative practice, residential group home settings, College/University settings and adventure therapy with adolescents. I have a passion for facilitating group experiences that provide support and healing. I have been a part of many teams that facilitate grief camps and retreats for children and youth, retreats for women’s wellness and incorporating movement as an adjunct to therapy into these spaces..
I completed my Masters in 2009 at Memorial University in NFLD in Social Work with a focus in clinical therapy. Since then I have study therapy modalities grounded in science and compassion, such as Compassionate Inquiry® (Gabor Maté), Certified Grief Specialist with EDU-Therapy®, trained in EMDR Therapy, ACT Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivation Interviewing..
My life and work philosophy has been influenced by living from a place of compassion, playfulness and connection to the land. These values guide me in my personal and professional life.
Why I continue to work in this field:
I believe in the power of being witnessed and having safe spaces where we can unburden the pain and hurts accumulated by living. I'm here to help you remember who you are beyond your losses and embrace the grace and joy available in life again.
